Use Attest in your AI assistant
Attest checks South African professionals against the official register for their profession, and publishes each check with its source and the date we read it. The Attest connector lets an AI assistant such as Claude ask Attest directly, so when you ask it for a plumber, an electrician, a gas installer, a financial adviser, an insurance broker, a debt counsellor, a tax practitioner, a beetle inspector, a solar installer, or a security company or locksmith, it can tell you who is on the register, where that was checked, and when.
It is free, read-only, and needs no account or sign-in.

In a conversation, the + button, then Connectors, turns Attest on or off for that chat.
Other assistants
Any assistant that supports remote MCP connectors can use the same URL. Developers can call the same search as a plain web API: see the OpenAPI description and llms.txt, which describes the whole register for AI models.

What comes back
For each business Attest has checked in the place you asked about: its name, town, address, phone number and website; what we checked it against (the Plumbing Industry Registration Board, the City of Cape Town's Plumber's Register, the Electrical Conformance Board directory, the SAQCC Gas register of gas practitioners, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority's register of authorised financial services providers, the National Credit Regulator's register of debt counsellors, for tax practitioners SAICA's and SAIPA's member registers, for beetle inspectors the South African Pest Control Association's list of wood borer inspectors, for solar installers the PV GreenCard directory of certified installation companies, or for security providers PSIRA's register of security service providers), what we found, and the date; its Google rating where we hold a recent one; and a link to its page on this site. For plumbers, the answer also carries the local rule: whether the municipality requires a plumbing Certificate of Compliance, and who may issue one, cited to the by-law and the date we read it.
How to read a result
- A result is what was found at the source on the date shown, nothing more. Registers change; check the date.
- A business missing from the results is not thereby unregistered or unqualified. Registration with the plumbing and electrical bodies is voluntary, and most businesses hold none. Attest never says otherwise, and a well-behaved assistant won't either.
- The order is not a ranking. Results are grouped by strength of evidence and rotated within each group, so every business in an area gets a fair share of first places.
- Who may issue a plumbing Certificate of Compliance is set by each municipality, not nationally. Where we have not read a municipality's by-law, the answer says "unknown", which is not the same as "not required". How to read a plumber's registration.
- For electricians, no public register exists: the Department of Employment and Labour publishes none. Attest uses the ECB directory, which most registered electricians are not listed in. What an electrical Certificate of Compliance must contain.
- For gas installers, registration with SAQCC Gas belongs to the practitioner, not the firm. Attest matches a business by its telephone number to a practitioner with a current LPG skill, and never says a business may issue a gas certificate: that authority is the practitioner's.
- For tax practitioners and accountants, registration belongs to the person. Attest reads the practice's own website for the practitioners it names and checks each at SAICA or SAIPA. Membership confirmed means a membership number on the website was confirmed; member listed means the body lists one member of the name and designation the website states. Attest does not itself say a practice is SARS-registered; where SAICA records a member as a registered tax practitioner, the answer says so, attributed to SAICA.
- For solar installers, solar installation is not itself a registered occupation: what the law asks of a solar PV installation is electrical, a registered contractor and a registered person to sign its Certificate of Compliance. Attest checks two voluntary directories, PV GreenCard (an industry scheme, matched by the business's name and street address) and the ECB directory (by telephone), and never describes an installer as licensed or approved.
- For financial advisers and insurance brokers, FSCA authorisation is compulsory, but most advisers work as representatives under a larger firm's licence, which does not name them. Attest matches a business to the register by its telephone number, never by name, so an adviser who is missing may still be authorised.
- For debt counsellors, registration with the National Credit Regulator is compulsory, but it belongs to the counsellor, not the firm. Attest matches a business by its telephone number or website and never shows the counsellor's own name.
- For beetle inspectors, no law requires a beetle certificate: the sale agreement asks for one and decides who may sign it, usually by reference to SAPCA. Attest matches a business by its telephone number or email domain to an inspector on SAPCA's voluntary list of wood borer (WDO) inspectors, and says only that: listed by SAPCA, which is not a legal status. General pest control is not covered.
- For security companies, armed response, alarm installers and locksmiths, registration with PSIRA is compulsory, but PSIRA's register shows no telephone or address. Attest checks a business only by the PSIRA number it publishes on its own website, so many are not established either way. The register records the business, not which services it offers or who it employs.
Limits
Each search returns up to 10 businesses. Without a key, searches are limited per network address each hour. Platforms that bring Attest to many users can ask for their own key at hello@attest.africa. Coverage is South Africa only: plumbers and electricians in all nine provinces, strongest in the Western Cape and Gauteng; gas installers, financial advisers, insurance brokers, debt counsellors, tax practitioners and accountants, beetle inspectors, solar installers, and security providers in the Western Cape so far.
Privacy
Your assistant sends Attest only what it is searching for, such as a profession and a town. We never receive your conversation, your name or your account. We keep a record of each search for 90 days to check that results are shown fairly. Please search by town or suburb rather than a street address. Details are in our privacy notice.
