Psychologists and counsellors
Psychologists, registered counsellors and psychometrists must each be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) to practise. Where a listing is in a practitioner's own name, Attest looks that name up on the HPCSA's register, and shows the registration as active when exactly one active practitioner of that surname and first name is registered. Other listings make no statement about registration either way until the practitioner claims the listing and we check their own registration number or HPCSA card.
Where a practice publishes its practice number on its own website, we check it with the Board of Healthcare Funders and say whether it is active. That number lets a practice bill medical schemes; it is not registration. You can check any practitioner yourself on the HPCSA's iRegister.
