Solar installation is not itself a registered occupation in South Africa. A solar PV system is connected to the property's electrical installation, so what the law asks is electrical: the contractor must be registered with the Department of Employment and Labour, and only a registered person may sign a Certificate of Compliance for the installation (Electrical Installation Regulations, 2009). The Department publishes no register of either. PV GreenCard is a voluntary industry scheme, and the ECB directory is voluntary too, so a business missing from both may still be qualified: ask the installer for both registration numbers.
